The London United-Harefield Academy U18 team played host to a visiting team from Russia whose ages ranged from 16 years to 22 years. The young Harefield Academy basketball players acquitted themselves remarkably well as they took the Russian team to overtime with a score of 91 – 91 at the end of the fourth quarter.
A fascinating and enthralling match from the start which highlighted the different skills in the respective teams, as the Russians sank three point shot after three point shot, whilst the Harefield players penetrated to the basket and drew the fouls.
But in the end the age and experience of the Russian team enabled them to pull ahead in overtime. It was an excellent opportunity for the Academy players to play against international opposition in front of a crowd of supporters which included the Deputy Mayor of London, Richard Barnes.
